In Innsbruck, the Hofkirche's nave includes the Tomb of the Emperor Maximilian I, who died in 1519, and was buried in Wiener Neustadt. The tomb is considered the finest work of German Renaissance sculpture, conceived as a glorification of the Holy Roman Empire. The central feature of the monument is the massive black marble sarcophagus with a bronze figure of the Emperor. On the sides of the sarcophagus, there are 24 marble reliefs depicting events in the Emperor's life. 28 over-lifesize bronze statues of the Emperor's ancestors and contemporaries surround the sarchophagus. The finest of these are of Count Albrecht IV of Habsburg, King Theodoric of the Ostrogoths and King Arthur of England.
Innsbruck also has a Maximilianeum, which is a museum of collectibles from the life of Emperor Maximilian. Many of his original documents and belongings are kept in the museum. A Innsbruck - Tomb and Museum of Emperor Maximilian I - nearest hotels
